In the Family Virtual Cast Reunion
July 28, 2020
In the Family tells the story of filmmaker Joanna Rudnick’s journey through the unpredictable world of predictive genetic testing during the dawn of testing for BRCA mutations. Along the way, she meets several women and families to uncover the reality of how hereditary cancer impacts their lives and communities.
Watch the first-ever gathering with all of the families in the film in one virtual conversation - 12 years after the film premiered on PBS! Hear from our panelists. They include a representative from each family in the movie, as well as Dr. Lee Shulman, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Division of Clinical Genetics at the Feinberg School of Medicine from Northwestern University Leigha Senter-Jamieson, Licensed Genetic Counselor from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Sue Friedman, FORCE’s Executive Director and Founder.
Joanna Rudnick is an Emmy®-nominated director and producer. She tells her personal story, as well as chronicles the lives of several individuals undergoing the process of genetic testing and coming to terms with learning they have a genetic mutation that greatly increases their risk for breast and ovarian cancer. The documentary screened as part of the successful effort to pass the Genetic Information Non-Discrimination Act (GINA), as well as challenge gene patenting, a case that went to the Supreme Court.
