About the Study
This study will collect blood samples and MRI images from people at an increased risk of developing pancreatic cancer in order to improve early-stage detection methods in the future. The blood samples and MRI images will be used to research potential signs and signals of early-stage pancreatic cancer.
What the Study Involves
People enrolled in the study will provide a blood sample at enrollment, prior to any pancreatic surgery, and prior to any GI endoscopy procedures. Pancreatic juice may be obtained only if the person is already undergoing a procedure that involves pancreatic juice. These samples will only be obtained if approved by your care team. Research MRI may be offered to people enrolled as well. People enrolled will not be notified of any findings. This study plans to follow care for 10 years following enrollment.
This Study is Open To:
People, 18 years or older, who meet at least one of the following will be included in the first tier of the study:
- diagnosis of a STK11 genetic mutation, also known as Peutz-Jeghers syndrome
- have a genetic mutation that increases risk of developing pancreatic cancer in one of the following genes: ATM, BRCA1, BRCA2, CDKN2A, MLH1, MSH2, MSH6 or PALB2 with at least one affected first-degree blood relative age 45 or younger or 10 years younger than the youngest affected blood relative
- at least one first-degree relative with pancreatic cancer who also has a first-degree relative with pancreatic cancer and/or at least two affected blood relatives on the same side of the family diagnosed before 50 years old or 10 years younger than the youngest affected blood relative
People, 18 years or older, who meet at least one of the following will be included in the second tier of the study:
- family history of pancreatic cancer in only one first degree relative disagnosed at age 50 or younger or 10 years youndger than the affected first degree relative
- have a genetic mutation that increases risk of developing pancreatic cancer in one of the following genes: ATM, BRCA1, BRCA2, MLH1, MSH2, MSH6 or PALB2 age 45 or younger who do not meet the tier one criteria
This Study is Not Open To:
People under the age of 18 who:
- have a personal history of pancreatic cancer
- history of total pancreatectomy
