How to Help > volunteer

public speaking & media outreach

Media coverage on the local and national levels is very valuable to FORCE. Whether it's submitting your story to the local newspaper, speaking at a cancer survivor forum or walk, or being interviewed by the local news; sharing your story can raise awareness of hereditary cancer, help people find support and resources through FORCE, and help those going through similar experiences feel less alone. If you are not comfortable with public speaking or media interviews, you can still share your story through the print media by writing a letter to the editor of your newspaper or submit an article to a magazine or newsletter. FORCE is always looking for article submissions for Joining FORCEs, our quarterly newsletter.

To help you get started, we have developed “how to” guides for reaching the local media and finding speaking or writing opportunities. We have included an outline of a presentation that you can deliver to local groups including cancer support groups, women's groups, nursing, and medical schools. These are all short and easy to read documents and worth taking the time to review.
